Some Famous Historians of Al-Hilla From the Sixth Century A H( the Twelfth Century A D) to the Late Ninth Century A H(the Fifthteenth Century A D)

Abstract

The present paper shows the important scientific and
intellectual role of the town of Al-Hilla during four centuries.
Al-Hilla was characterized by a pioneering scientific status,
shown through its multitude of scholars and thinkers, and the
production in the various fields of science and thought they
excelled in. Many of them were considered as men of renaissance
in various fields of science and knowledge .
Since its foundation in the late fifth century A H, Al-Hilla
attracted a multitude of intellectuals, scholars and scientists
due to the encouragement of its Al-Mizyadiyeen princes for
science and scientists through honoring them and receiving
them cordially. In addition, Al-Hilla was known for its two
civilizations: it was the heiress of ancient civilization of
Babylon, which was well-known in the history of Mesopotamia
and the whole world. Furthermore, it has become a scientific centre because it embraced the scientific(scholarly) Seminary
(Hawza) for about four centuries. Consequently, a large number
of outstanding intellectual abilities appeared in it, which
have had a great effect in establishing the diversified scientific
thought in various knowledge and scientific fields. This led to
the appearance of some scientific families, who transmitted
thought and science by inheritance, such as: Al Nama(Family of
Nama), Al Tawoos(Family of Tawoos), Al Sa'eed(Family of Sa'eed)
and Al Al-Mutahhar(Family of Al-Mutahhar). Moreover, many
scientists, jurists and scholars of the Sada(descendants of
the Prophet and Ahlul-Bait): Al-Moosawiyah family and Al-
A'rajiyah family have appeared. The reader can find them in
the course of this paper, which is limited to the study of some
examples of the famous historians of Al-Hilla, displaying their
works and their efforts in this field: those who have specialized
in the field of historical writing as well as their efforts and
their works in the field of biographical evaluation(knowledge
of men) and genealogy.
