Al-Hilli worked on establishing a set of rules that regulate the process of semantic inference from the Quranic text. Among these rules was the topic of "Generality and Specificity," considered one of the major discussions of linguistic evidence among foundational scholars. Al-Hilli dedicated attention to this topic by laying the foundation for the concept of generality and then elaborating on it, discussing what falls under the category of generality and what does not. He further rooted the concept of specificity, explaining his understanding of its means of recognition in the Quranic text and how he addressed some challenges that lead the recipient to understand the boundaries of specification.
This study examines this foundational topic from the perspective of al-Hilli, shedding light on his new insight into this cognitive path or pausing at a theoretical starting point for the scholar himself, requiring contemplation and reassessment.
